Solon Firefighter Job Description
The Solon Fire Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Firefighter/MFR. The ideal candidate will possess the desire and compassion to assist others and protect lives, property, and the environment. The work will be performed as an individual contributor to the firefighting team, which includes responding to and combating fires, providing emergency medical care, engaging in ongoing training, and participating in community outreach events.
Firefighter responsibilities:
- Conduct firefighting operations, including fire prevention, combating, and extinguishing, to safeguard lives, property, and the environment.
- Operate fire equipment and tools correctly.
- Provide emergency medical assistance within the scope of practice.
- Quickly and effectively assess hazardous situations and take the appropriate action.
- Engage in training, classes, and drills related to firefighting, emergency medical care, disaster response, and specialized rescue.
Basic functions:
- “Team Player” attitude
- Able to lift equipment weighing 50 pounds or more above waist level
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to deal with other firefighters and the public
- Good physical condition
Qualifications:
- High school diploma/GED required
- Current driver’s license
- At least 18 years of age
- Ability to pass background check, drug and alcohol screening, and medical and physical examinations
- Ability to obtain Firefighter II & Medical First Responder license
Miscellaneous Information
This is a paid “On-Call” position. Therefore, candidates must live within Solon township or be in close proximity to qualify.
